| Introduction | I am currently the Head and Senior Lecturer of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, with expertise in communication and media strategy for development industries and public relations. My professional experience includes serving as a strategic communication consultant in community mobilisation and empowerment projects with ITDG (UK) and the World Bank–funded Gamidiriya Rural Development Programme, where I worked as a Senior Programme Officer. My research and teaching interests span digital and virtual social media, public relations, creative relationship management, gender and masculinity studies, LGBTIQ+ issues, sexual health, and higher education. As a senior academic, I have played a pivotal role in shaping the mass communication discipline in Sri Lanka. I was instrumental in developing Public Relations and Media Management curricula, leading to the establishment of Diploma, Higher Diploma, Postgraduate Diploma, General and Honours Degree programmes, as well as the Master’s in Communication Management.
