IntroductionThe Cuveen of the Black Goat is a small witchcraft group in eastern North Carolina. We are committed to exploring American folkloric witchcraft and the traditional witchcraft and cunning craft of the British Isles, especially the Southwest and Cornwall. We use ritual techniques taught to us by our late mentor and initiator, Peter Paddon, along with material from Gemma Gary's Cornish Witchcraft, and considerable original material. Our focus is on operative witchcraft and on "tapping the bone" to recover lore from Ancestral contacts. We do observe the eightfold Wheel of the Year, but we do so by invoking spirits of our four main animal familiars (Serpent, Rabbit, Toad, and Crow) and the gifts and qualities they endow, by exploring local folklore in vision, and by working with the Land. Our particular interest is in exploring folktales and "superstitions" of eastern North Carolina for new/old ritual and magickal techniques and local magickal contacts.
