| Introduction | On 12th August 2010 I boarded a flight in Heathrow and flew to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The roaming and searching spirit in me finally sprung wings and I moved from the lively city of London to a quiet and rural part of Tanzania. I had been interested in doing something different with my life and related to charity or development work since a trip to Asia in 2004. I finally signed up to volunteer for two years with the Rosminians Fathers in Tanga. I am always challenged, truly surprised at what I learn about myself everyday, constantly faced with the issues a corrupt and devastatingly poor nation presents but forever trying and wanting to make something happen. I hope that maybe something I write will bring light to and present honestly and openly what life is really like in Tanzania. By sharing the trials and tribulations of my work here I can perhaps give some idea of the alternative to the 9-5 day job. It can be frustrating as hell but character building! I cannot hope to change much but I can hope to change something. |
