| Introduction | I have been a professional artist for over 40 years. That means I have been making my living from the love and dedication of creating art. I started this career and life work at age 20. It has been a long journey with many twists and turns, joys and disappointments, successes and failures. I have now learned what art is and what it isn't, at least for me. I suppose each artist has to come to this understanding on their own. There is no common denominator. Only a desire to communicate feelings, emotions, life experiences and thoughts to others in a visual, non-verbal way. Artists are given a set of talents from God: dexterity, vision, seeing the world in an unusual way---but growing into the life of an artist takes discipline and introspection and practice. One never seems to entirely "get it right". That is the challenge that keeps us going. More about my life as an artist can be found on my website: kathleencook.com.
