Introduction	I am a Durban based jewellery designer.My work is based around manufacturing contemporary jewellery completely by hand; this involves making my own tools for punching and creating many test pieces to deliver a design which appeals to me. I thoroughly enjoy watching the transformation of a plain piece of metal into an embellished beautiful piece of jewellery.The patterns which I use in my jewellery are based on the Mandala which is a branch of sacred geometry. The Mandala is a form of artwork which is used as an aid to meditation; by focussing on the Mandala the outer world slowly disappears and one can induce a state of meditation. The repetitive punching involved in the creation of my jewellery serves as an aid to meditation; when I begin punching, at first, I have to think about the placement of my punch and after a while it forms an automatic response and becomes a meditation. In this way my manufacturing ties in with my theme of the Mandala.
