| Introduction | Me, personally? I am a writer and analytical thinker, both at heart and in my day job. I appreciate home-grown food, but can't cook. My ideas frequently outpace my time constraints and my patience. I grew up in Minnesota (short and harsh growing season), and lived in North Dakota, where saw some of the richest farmland in the country. I moved to North Carolina for graduate school, and met and married a farm boy from Nebraska. I have lived in north-central NC for 8 years and am still exploring the gardening limits and requirements for Zone 7. If you would like to contact me, please send an e-mail to sprigsandroots (at) gmail (dot) com. |
| Interests | Sprigs and Roots explores the ways in which gardening and horticultural activities reflect so many other qualities in ourselves and our backgrounds. (That sounds serious. In truth, I really just ramble a bit about my yard and garden projects.) However, my goal is to also connect with other gardeners, both the experienced and the hesitant. I also plan to spend some time reflecting on how gardening connects us to our past. We've always needed to eat, and until recently, we've always had a significant connection to nature and to the source of our food, and even to ourselves as food producers. I review that heritage, while making observations and conducting experiments on my own little plot of earth. |
