Introduction	Our daughter, Sofia, was diagnosed at 19 weeks gestation with a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) during a routine ultrasound. She was born March 10, 2008, spent 12 days on ECMO (heart & lung bypass), and had her CDH repair surgery at 17 days old. She finally came home after 81 days in the NICU. Sofie has experienced 3 recurrences of her CDH and had 3 subsequent repair surgeries at 4, 8, and 13 months of age respectively. CDH has an overall survival rate of about 50-60%. By sharing our story, we hope to educate as many people as possible about CDH from a parent's perspective and bring hope to other families affected by CDH.
