Introduction | Steve Neff is originally from Upstate New York. He started playing the sax when he was 12. In high school he started to study clarinet and flute also. Steve attended Ithaca College where he pursued a degree in Music Education and Performance. During his two years at Ithaca he studied much of the classical repertoire for the saxophone as well as continuing to increase his knowledge and skills in the jazz idiom. A summer visit to Boston in 1987 inspired Steve to transfer to the Berklee College of Music in Boston . He wanted to be among the best players and teachers in the world. He switched his Major to performance and studied with many greats including George Garzone, Jerry Bergonzi, Bill Pierce, Joe Viola and Charlie Banacos. During his third semester Steve was offered a gig by one of his professors and has been playing professionally in the New England area ever since. Currently, Steve teaches privately with a current roster of over 70 students as well as playing regularly around the New England area. |
