Introduction My name is Neil but some previous work colleagues call me Factor. It’s one of many nicknames from previous employment where the name takes too long to explain. Anyway, as far as birding goes I’m a novice compared to numerous people I have come across recently. I only took it up about five years ago, although I was interested in the subject as a child. So, after a break of 40 years this is where I now am. I work from home, which is handy, since my patch is the Holmethorpe Sand Pit complex, and is only a ten minute walk from my house. It means I can skive off for the odd couple of hours during the week. There are three important things I know about birding. One is that a birder suffers from OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). Who, in their right mind, would get up at the crack of dawn to go and look at birds, lugging a ruddy great tripod and scope all over the countryside? The second thing is a birder would never bring up the subject on a first date – it simply wouldn’t be wise. And thirdly, birding is fascinating, compelling and frustrating in equal measure, and I’m hooked (but don’t tell anyone).
Interests Birding, motorsport, general sport, geography, art, science, dipping Firecrests.
