| Interests | My first ride in an Alvis was in my Uncle George's (McKerrow)1925 SC 12/50 at age 13 in Scotland. I'd learned to drive at 11 in a friend's 1935 Morris 8. Timed racing up and down his lane led me to the discovery of the hand brake turn which put the Morris on its side. I don't think I told Uncle George about that as he offered me the Alvis to drive! The Morris, and a 1932 Austin 7 I'd also driven had some form of synchromesh gears so I was unprepared for the Alvis crash box! I've driven HP 9877 since then and when Uncle George passed away in 1986 he left it to me to continue its caretaking. I still drive it regularly in South Florida. |
