Introduction My first creation was a skirt when I was 10. My Mum showed me how to sew using her Necchi sewing machine. I decided to broaden my sewing skills by studying commercial dressmaking. This was a thrilling course to complete! We learned to sew everything from bathers to baby clothes to wedding gowns. We learned tailoring, millinery, and jewellery making. We learned how to draft our own patterns and experienced using all the various varieties of commercial patterns. This course took me five years part-time to complete! It was the hardest study I had ever done, and everything had to be completed to the most exacting standards. But it was well worth it. As I am also a qualified trainer, it didn't seem a large stretch to share my sewing knowledge. Now I teach absolute beginners to sew - which is so rewarding - as well as give specialised workshops on sewing techniques and pattern drafting lessons.
