Introduction K. Curtis Lyle was born and raised in L.A. He was a child of the '60s and a founder of the original Watts Writers Workshop. He came to St. Louis in 1969 to help establish the African-American Studies Program at Washington University, where he was poet-in-residence. He has recorded records with the late Julius Hemphill, performed widely as a poet, been anthologized in collections of jazz poetry and African-American poetry, and appears as The Pharaoh in the indie film Blind Cat Black. His most recent books are Electric Church and Nailed Seraphim. He lives in St. Louis and is a regular contributer to The St. Louis American newspaper and 52nd City. He serves on the board of Poetry Scores, an arts org devoted to translating poetry into other media. His work is available in indie shops and by contacting the poet. Nailed Seraphim is the subject of the 2008 Poetry Scores Art Invitational, to be held Friday, Nov. 21 at Hoffman LaChance Contemporary in Maplewood, Mo.
