Introduction	I'm officially Ph.D.'d. At age 31 I finally finished being a student and began my career as a professor in fall 2008. I am a nerd, and I like many nerdy things. I listen to old-fashioned music and love musicals. I like Cary Grant better than Hugh Grant; Colin Firth more than Colin Ferrell; Rosemary Clooney more than Rihanna. I like books and coffee and Diet Coke, in no particular order. I amuse myself even when no one else is looking.
Favorite movies	Pride and Prejudice (Colin Firth version), Lord of the Rings trilogy, Bridget Jones' Diary, Monty Python movies, Amelie, The Office, North and South (Gaskell adaptation, not Civil War epic)
Favorite music	The Standards (Sinatra, Martin, Fitzgerald, Holiday, etc), Classical (in the general sense, not the specific era), some pop (e.g., Coldplay, Ben Folds, Wilco)
Favorite books	Jane Austen novels, Amelia Peabody mysteries by Elizabeth Peters, Lord of the Rings trilogy, Vanity Fair, anything by Sarah Vowell
