| Introduction | I left India more than nine years ago as a "trailing spouse". I accompanied my husband on his work assignment to American. I had assumed, foolishly, that I would eventually return to India. But here I am, settled in Los Angeles, California, after having moved around quite a bit. I have called eight apartments across six cities and two continents, 'home'. As a social person who loves interacting with people from different cultures, life abroad has broadened my horizons and made me more mature...humble, even. But it has also forced me to rethink my identity and redefine my concept of 'home'. I'm not sure I have figured out who I have become (American?) or who I am (Indian?). All I know is that I'm a work in progress, evolving, reforming and reshaping the best and worst of me. |
