Introduction Edgar- and Shamus-nominated writer Michael Bracken is the author of 11 books and more than 1,200 short stories He also edits Black Cat Mystery Magazine and crime fiction anthologies, including the Anthony Award-nominated The Eyes of Texas: Private Eyes from the Panhandle to the Piney Woods. He is recipient of the 2016 Edward D. Hoch Memorial Golden Derringer lifetime achievement award for short mystery fiction. His work has received three Derringer Awards and three additional nominations, his story "Smoked" was included in The Best American Mystery Stories, and his story "Blest Be the Tie That Binds" was included in The Best Mystery Stories of the Year. Additionally, he has received many awards for advertising copywriting. Former Vice President of the Private Eye Writers of America and former VP of the Mystery Writers of America’s Southwest Chapter, Bracken is also an active member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America and for many years was an active member of the Horror Writers Association.
