| Introduction | I started this blog 3.5 years ago, 6 months before my 50th birthday. Needless to say, my goal of being fit by 50 was a failure. In the months after I started this blog, I tried countless weight loss programs. I could not sustain anything long-term. After seeing a family video with my mom and aunt (my mom now in a wheelchair and my aunt who passed away but was also wheelchair bound), I started thinking "is this my destiny"? I started investigating Bariatric Surgery, talked to my friend who had it, went to an informational seminar and decided this was the path for me. I had medical evaluations, a psych eval, testing and a monitored diet with my family physician and support group once a month. Finally on November 4, 2011, Whitney called from BMI of Lancaster and scheduled me for a December 12th surgery. Later that afternoon in a private waiting room at the Suzanne Arnold Center for Breast Health, I found out that I had breast cancer. Double whammy. Not only did I have cancer, but I couldn't go through with my surgery. Fast forward 6 months, I have completed my surgery and treatment for cancer and can now get back to the business at hand. Surgery was scheduled for August 6, 2012. |
