Introduction A native of Ohio, Dan Newland has lived, worked and traveled in South America since 1973. Besides free-lancing for major US and British publications for more than two decades, he was a reporter, editor and commentator for 13 years with the Buenos Aires Herald, a daily renowned for its valiant human rights campaign during Argentina’s bloody era of military rule. Newland is now a free-lance writer, translator, editor and ghost. Based in Patagonia, he is currently pursuing his life-long interest in fiction, on subjects from what he calls his “dual life”, lived in both the heartland of the United States and the southernmost reaches of South America. North American by birth and sentiment, Patagonian by affinity and choice, he is a true Southern Yankee.
