About me

Gender Female
Occupation Student
Location Tunis, Tunisia
Introduction I'm a third year at Oberlin College where I study ethnomusicology and anthropology as well as scientific illustration, violin, late-night poetry reading, West Sumatran Talempong, four-square, a capella, and granola-making. I grew up in a small college town in Connecticut where my parents teach Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and where my brother composes music for cello, guitar, and small ensembles, participates in Christmas bird counts. My dog, Cezanne, does a twist in the air for "Obama!" I'll be studying In Tunisia for four months from Late January to mid May, 2009. Based in Tunis, I will take an intensive Arabic course and a seminar in Popular Culture and Globalization in the Arab World through the School for International Training (SIT). I will travel, try to communicate with Tunisians, conduct independent research on manifestations of globalization in the music of the city, learn to eat, sleep, and breathe with my host family and the other members of the program, and I will, as always, make music.
