| Introduction | I'm a part-time college teacher and PhD student with a one year old, two dogs, a cat, a fixer-upper house that's in a constant state of construction, a garden that's been neglected for the past two years (due to pregnancy and new-mom-ness), and too many hobbies. I often say that I follow the "dog training method of child-rearing"--meaning positive reinforcement, gentle discipline, consistent commands. This loosely correlates with the canons of AP (attachment parenting), but I modify them to suit my own needs. I believe in natural childbirth and breastfeeding when at all possible (realizing that sometimes they might not be possible). I have dreams of running a hobby farm someday, but as of now, I can't quite bring myself to abandon the city. Thus we live in an "up-and-coming" area of Chicago, which allows us to afford our big, drafty old house on a quarter-acre of land just two blocks from the el (Chicago's public transit train system, for those not in the know).
