Introduction	Lest you think I’m a commie-pinko, wheatgrass-slurping, flower-fondling hippy, you should know that I love meat and mascara, I shop at Target, and one of our two family vehicles is an SUV. I’ve often thought that the “zip lock” baggie is one of mankind’s greatest inventions. I’m a middle-aged, middle-class, ex-Midwesterner now living in Oakland, California. This cranky housewife with a college degree came of age during the 1970s when Tuna Helper and Jiffy Pop fed our family of eight kids. My mother nearly fainted from happiness the day Dad brought home the first Amana Radar Range microwave oven.
