| Introduction | I am a fifties housewife, so everything I know is obsolete. I graduated from the University of Alabama in journalism beside my husband in 1960. I went into the newspaper business in North Alabama. My husband worked for newspapers until he went into college teaching from which he retired in 2000 from Auburn University. His "big story" was Civil Rights. He covered the Selma March and the trials that followed. We are distressed by what's happened to journalism today. I am distressed by what-passes-for-journalism nowadays. We have three grown children with five college degrees, and we have two cats. |
| Interests | Journalism; books; music; internet; computers; Ipod; movies; some TV; family history; photo editing; My favorite trip was to London, England in 1999. |
| Favorite movies | Hard to say because I still love "Risky Business". "Rebecca" is an all time favorite. I find myself watching "Mrs. Miniver" and "Four Weddings and a Funeral"fairly often. Also "Random Harvest". I go way back but not as fas as the silents on TCM. |
| Favorite music | Clay Aiken is my favorite new singer. I became a fan the first time I heard him on GMA. Otherwise my taste is eclectic: Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, k.d.lang, Frank Sinatra, and lots of classical music and operas. Tschaivoksky is who I'd have in the Ipod on the desert island. |
| Favorite books | "God's Little Acre" by Erskine Caldwell, who wasn't even considered a first class writer. That book and "Tobacco Road" spoke to me. Recently a favorite is "The Measure of a Man" by Sidney Poitier. I like mysteries by Anne Perry and Harlan Coben. And history and political science. I read daily. My fortune is in my books. |
What would you name your ballet inspired by the sight of children leaping through a garden sprinkler?
"Water Lilies in the Rain"
