Industry Arts
Occupation weaver/writer/teacher
Location Asheville, Western North Carolina, United States
Introduction Artist Statement: Exploring infinite ways to create patterned textiles at the loom drives my fascination with weaving. A ‘structure’ weaver, I am drawn to intricate interlacements, but am thrilled when simple combinations of structure, color and texture yield a beautiful, complex-looking woven design. For me, the learning is as much fun as the creating, and the desire to share that learning by teaching others the craft through instruction and writing will be the focus of my continued development as a fiber artist. I earned a Certificate of Excellence in Handweaving Level I from HGA in 2008 and have published numerous articles in Handwoven Magazine. I began weaving in 1998 and began teaching in 2004. Juried shows include "Fiber Artists: Philadelpha #5" in 2007 and "On the Fringe of Fiber" at Philadelphia City Hall in 2009. I served as coordinator of the South Jersey Guild of Spinners & Handweavers from 2007-2009, and secretary from 2000-2007. I served on the Mid-Atlantic Fiber Assn. Board of Directors from 2001-2005. I also belong to the Western North Carolina Fibers/Handweavers Guild and the Philadelphia Guild of Handweavers.
