| Introduction | I am the antithesis of a pragmatist and survivalist. My life is replete with indulgences in activities that do little to sustain my existence on this planet. Others pursue mathematics as a means to an end. I love it for its sheer beauty. I dream of joining the pantheon of mathematicians who blazed the trails for mere mortals to follow. I champion the revival of Literary Chinese and Ciceronian Latin as lingua francas of the East and West – for the vulgar tongues of today’s vernacular languages pale in comparison to the Classical languages. I love old stuff. Pre-war buildings, black-and-white portraits, pendulum clocks, and especially the classic Mini. I take to jazz, with all its creative harmonic wonders. A piece that captures my imagination can have me rooted in Neverland for weeks on end. Fitness is a life-long journey for me. I enjoy a good workout, hill-hiking and rock-climbing. I crave the sanctuary and solitude of the mountains and hilltops, high above the chaotic world below, protected by trees and surrounded by Nature’s soft melodies. I value my friends a lot, and would go the extra mile for them. |
