| Introduction | During a casual conversation in which I said I needed to give up coffee, my mother lovingly responded with a sigh, “You’re always giving up something”. Upon reflection I realized that giving up is usually associated with negativity. Many of us have given part of ourselves up: our dream careers; an experience or two that we had hoped to someday experience but felt out of our reach. This is my attempt to reclaim and re-purpose the term “giving up”. It is my aim to find ways that giving up can be a healthy and positive thing encouraging personal growth and self-discovery. I hope you will join me for my ride and that it will perhaps inspire you to begin a journey of your own. |
