IntroductionI am a lifelong learner and educator working to raise up new teachers to see the value and unique potential of their students. I am committed to promoting equity, inclusion, diversity, and access for all by empowering new teachers with the tools to break the pattern of racism perpetuated in American culture. Universal Design along with Project Based and Differentiated Instruction provide powerful learning opportunities for students of all ages and abilities. I’ve been fortunate throughout my career to work in elementary schools where these approaches are valued. Working in teacher preparation, I now have the opportunity to collaborate with pre- and inservice teachers on their application of these and other best practices in their classrooms. As a second year doctoral student in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Social Justice, I am exploring ways to mitigate the impact of implicit bias in our schools by developing tools for classroom teachers to interrupt the perpetuation of stereotypes and mistruths.
