InterestsMany great trainers work with dogs in other mediums such as boarding, rescue organizations, or pet stores. (e.g. Cesar Milan worked at a dog wash earlier in his budding career.) Such work gives trainers more time and experience with dogs, leading to a greater understanding of dog behavior. This extra time with dogs has no substitute. No training with experts or reading books or watching videos can teach one as quickly and as thoroughly as actual time spent with dogs. Ryan chose dog walking as a way to gain this dog experience and to just "be around" dogs more often. Because of his expertise as a trainer, Ryan is able to handle aggressive, shy, and anti-social dogs and successfully integrate them with groups of dogs.
Favorite booksRecommended Dog Book Authors: Brian Kilcommons, Turid Rugaas, Barbara Woodhouse, Jan Fennell, Bruce Fogle, to name a few. By no means is this list complete and I am always interested and indebted to the many wonderful dog experts who publish, record, or simply demonstrate their knowledge.
