| Introduction | I am a middle school teacher in Florida. I draw the comic strip "Mr. Fitz" for the Daytona Beach News-Journal. The strip can be found online at www.mrfitz.com and at the Facebook page Mr. Fitz Comic Strips. I have also written books for teachers for Scholastic Professional: "Writing Extraordinary Essays" and "Teaching Students to Make Writing Visual and Vivid." I'm the author of three Young Adult novels, "Making My Escape" as well as "Portents" and "Portals" (co-authored with my son, Christopher). I believe in real education as opposed to skill and drill and test curriculum dispensing. I believe teaching and learning should not be standardized, but should engage the whole mind.
