IntroductionHi, I’m Conrad — a carpenter 🪚, joinery teacher, and the person behind BlueWood Pro. With a few decades of hands-on experience (and still learning every day!), my career has taken me from construction, into ICT systems and networks, and back into carpentry — where I now run BlueWood Pro and teach City & Guilds Carpentry & Joinery. BlueWood Pro brings it all together. On one side, BlueWood Handyman focuses on professional carpentry and practical work on site. On the other, BlueWood Office helps tradespeople get their ICT, admin, and business systems working properly — without over-complicating things. I’m passionate about doing things properly — whether that’s cutting a clean joint, setting out accurately, or building simple systems that make a business easier to run. Everything I share is based on real experience — on site, in the classroom, and running a business day-to-day. No fluff, just practical skills, useful systems, and continuous improvement 👍
InterestsI tend to go all in on what I do. Family comes first, followed by woodworking and carpentry, building better systems for small businesses, teaching, and always looking to improve.
Favorite moviesA bit of a mix. I like The Founder (about McDonald's with Michael Keaton) — not just for the story, but for the systems behind how it all scaled. Star Trek has always been a big favourite too. I also like Meet Joe Black — a bit different, but it reminds you about time, choices, and what actually matters. Death and taxes, as they say. I used to enjoy time travel films as well, but these days I don’t watch much TV. I’d rather use my time more intentionally — building things, working on projects, and improving where I can. In a way, I prefer real life now… I’m directing and starring in my own film 👍
Favorite musicI’m getting into American country — I like that it tells a story. Proper lyrics, not just the same lines repeated over and over.
Favorite booksI wouldn’t say I’m a big reader, but the books I do read tend to stick — usually practical or ones that make you think. Early on, Construction Studies got me hooked on how things are built. I was already working on site during school holidays and ended up getting top marks — that subject definitely shaped my path. On the business and mindset side, books like Tax-Free Wealth, Build and Grow, Unlimited Power by Tony Robbins, Change Your Life in 7 Days by Paul McKenna, and Routine = Results by Rob Moore all pushed me to improve, focus on systems, and take action. Some books made me think a bit deeper too — Conversations with God by Neale Donald Walsch and Brief Answers to the Big Questions changed how I look at life and what’s possible. And I really enjoyed The Dark Tower series by Stephen King — a good story still goes a long way. I’ve also got a lot of respect for simple, practical books like The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying by Marie Kondo — a good reminder not to overcomplicate things or assume everyone knows the basics. These days, I tend to read with a purpose — something I can apply on site, in teaching, or in business. And I still refer back to the City & Guilds Carpentry & Joinery books regularly. Looking back, I probably undervalued reading when I was younger — drank a bit more and read a bit less! Maybe one day I’ll write my own manual… a collection of woodworking guides and lessons learned along the way 👍

What's the earliest you've gotten up to watch cartoons and what did you see?

Probably far too early 😄 It wasn’t cartoons though — more likely Star Trek. I’ve always been an early starter, and these days it’s more tools, projects and a coffee than the TV.
