| Introduction | Atlantic Thread is a project of connection, along a coastline which for many thousands of years has been a road along which people have exchanged ideas, skills, stories, music and love. The languages, administrations, social structures and religions have changed countless times in the places along this route, yet the people there have always shared the same dependency on the sea, watched the same sunsets, felt the same awe at the power of the waves, and shivered in the same ocean winds. As a maker of scarves, blankets, rugs and sweaters, I have joined a long-standing tradition of using yarn to create warmth and protection against those gales and breezes, and I set out on a journey, following the Atlantic Thread to visit over 40 independent yarn shops along this coastline, knitting and hooking wherever I went. |
