| Introduction | Make the world a better place for having been there. All politics is local. Put these two things together and they explain my passions in a nutshell: it is everyone's business to make sure that all, not just the privileged few, are truly able to achieve their inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That means I actively support responsible social programs that can be administered by our Government of the People, by the People and for the People. But, the system that has developed has serious flaws. There is a LOT of work to do to ensure that the social safety nets we implement help those who truly need the help, and are not just designed to enrich the few who can find a way to exploit it for their own gain. We should be working towards a society in which any "classes" that exist don't have enormous distance between them. The accumulation of great wealth is only a manifestation and demonstration of power. It does no good. It is a sad situation to have vulnerable children and adults going without adequate nutrition or medical care - the absolute basics of life - while others accumulate more wealth than they can ever use or enjoy. |
