| Introduction | I have traveled over 50 countries, climbed Mt Rainier, Mt, Kilimanjaro and Mt. McKinley along the way. I continued my pursuit of adventure and in 1994 I became the first woman to cross Alaska alone which I filmed for National Geographic. Highlights of this trek; cross-country skiing 600 miles down the frozen Yukon River pulling a 160 lb sled in -55F temperatures, building a canoe in an Athabascan native village and paddling 900 miles after spring break up, completing my journey in 4 months, 6 days. Other previous pursuits include; founder of the American Women's Trans-Antarctic Expedition in 1991, commercial fishing in the Alaskan Gulf, trekking across East Africa alone, volunteer work in the Hurricane Katrina area, film-making, writing and the accumulation of fine friends. Currently I am Co-Founder of PowerUp-NC. Our organization finds energy efficient programs and incentives for Nevada City and other rural California communities. |
