Introduction Born Melbourne 1988, Caroline Halstead completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Photomedia) at Monash University in 2009. Participating in Group Exhibitions through 2009/10, her first Solo Exhibition in April 2010. Halstead’s early work evolved out of a fascination with emotions, and how a photograph, especially from film, has the capabilities to encapsulate such strong feeling. Through University her work grew from ideas about chance and the natural forces, to an exploration of senses when paralleled with perception. Lately Halstead’s interest has been developing in the representative qualities of photography; the simulations of events that photography provides, as opposed to the sometimes selective, embellished or fragmentary memories of the events that we (ourselves) provide. Exploring photography and also sculptural elements, Halstead’s solo show Fragmentary Observations includes photographs transferred onto post-it notes to create an overwhelming atmosphere of reminders that curl out from the wall into the viewers space. Caroline Halstead is continuing with ideas about how archived images create patterns and tensions between physical things and private experiences.
