About me

LocationSanta Fe, NM
IntroductionMy passion for making felt "magic" began in 2007 when I was introduced to machine felting. Caught in the web of wool fiber mystery as I discovered that felt is believed to be the earliest form of textile making, I faced the direction of source & enrolled in a traditional felt making class in Konya, Turkey, in 2008, with Master Mehmet Girgic and Theresa O'Brien. I next studied with the generous & amazing American Master Horst (HorstCouture.com) who influenced the development of my free form. Listening to the wool speak its mind allows me to turn off mine! In preparation to teach my “Felt What We Feel” class, and to produce what organically transpires with the wool of feltfree©, I hand dye the fleece & relish seeing it dry against the New Mexico sky. My versatile creations come alive as unstructured, original softness, delicious to look at and comfy to wear, with undulating edges, spontaneous tendrils of whimsy and random hollows. I encourage freedom to wear each piece however one feels (no front, no back, no right or wrong way). The beauty of free choice…it’s what I felt. Meet Raquel, the mannequin blogger.
