| Introduction | I've been a keen birder since childhood and it was the changes I witnessed travelling in search of birds that made me a conservationists. I started my career in urban conservation in the UK before moving to Indonesia in 1991 to set up a new country programme for BirdLife International. After six year with BirdLife I went freelance working for various international agencies and NGOs and completing a Doctorate in Protected Area Policy at Oxford. Subsequently i moved more in to teaching and reseach and now direct an MSc programme in the School of Geography and the Environment. Having previously specialized in the design and establishment of protected areas and in wildlife trade issues, my research now considers conservation as a social process, with a particular focus on questions of governance. |
