Introduction I became a cancer patient advocate during treatment in 1991, leaving my successful career in computers behind. 2 cancers and precancerous lesion before age 40, mom dead with cancer, husband with cancer and we didn't even come from cancer families! I help cancer researchers create results for people (instead of wallowing in ‘cool science’) so my son's generation won't have to. This has led to thousands of discussions with patients, researchers, hospitalists, and policy makers of all kinds. My expertise and interests cover: - Patient issues infused into research discussions and healthcare policies - Drug and biomarker development (preclinical studies to registration trials) - Health disparities, e.g. race, cultures, socioeconomics - Ethical conundrums in emerging science, e.g. genetics - Translating evidence/results into useful information for patients, healthcare systems, providers, and hospitals - Comparative effectiveness research, QOL, and Patient-Reported Outcomes - Public health and prevention - Organizational dynamics and strategic planning - Advice to cancer centers, organizations, companies, federal agencies, and patients
Interests How things work, research, family, friends, music, baking, and jewelry-making.
