Introduction | After seven years of teaching, I've found the overwhelming majority of educational research and opinions about policy come from people who are not in the classroom. And while I think active teaching should not necessarily be a prerequisite for the people who set policy, I believe career teachers provide valuable insight into how schools work, and should be heard. This blog is an attempt to synthesize what I have learned about education policy since earning my law degree from Syracuse in 2002. Later that same year, I joined the NYC Teaching Fellows and taught for three years at an underperforming South Bronx school, followed by two years in an overperforming university assisted school in Philadelphia. Currently, I am in my third year of teaching at an elementary school in rural Tennessee. |
