| Introduction | Let my introduction to you be the mending of some common misconceptions: yes we watch TV. No we generally do NOT know sign language. And sure, some of us do have exceptional hearing, but it is not a superpower. We simply use our other senses to their full potential instead of relying mostly on one. We (most of us) aren't aliens. We, and our problems, are universal (sans the blindness, of course) but that's all. There's teen pregnancy, depression, successes, fame, &c. Some of my friends despise answering questions about their vision; feeling it it to be akin to nailing jelly to a wall...nigh impossible. And some have trouble coping. But I have few qualms. I love the many stories I've accumulated over the years. And educating those with a genuine interest. Of course I think about how different my life would be with twenty/twenty. But what can I do? I find the humor in my situations and I hope you can do the same (in addition to learning a thing or two) as you enter uncharted territory PS. There are different levels of vision. So just because he/she doesn't "look blind", doesn't mean their messing with you. |
