Why does the taste of pennies remind you of losing a tooth?

Let me answer your question with another question. Why on earth are we tasting pennies? Are we that deficient in iron that we feel the need to suck on filthy coins and therefore expose ourselves to a mulitude of communicable diseases? I'm just wondering.
