About me

Introduction The WHY Collective is a group of youth who come together to inspire others through art. Our goal is to engage youth in social change and give them a voice in our city. We do this by promoting collaboration, creativity, and unity among diverse youth and by asking the question Why? Why are things the way they are, and what can we do to change them? Founded in 2008, we met during the Walls of Sorrow/Walls of Hope project and represent youth from different backgrounds, abilities, ages, and cultures. Artistically, we focus on collaborative and multi-media arts projects that combine: video, sound, sculpture, performance, and visual arts. The group is mentored by Julie Jarvis, Artistic Director of Walls of Hope Canada and funded by the Laidlaw Foundation. We work in partnership with Sketch, which provides a space for us to develop our ideas and artwork.
