He was a visionary. Saint tradition and philosophy of a millenium was before him. Many unanswered and difficult questions of the society for thousands of years were before him. These questions were chiefly of language, religion, caste system and right to knowledge and in course of time they grew more and more violent and complicated in the seventeenth century. Tukoba sincerely tried to solve the questions in his life time, composing abhangas and awakening the society through kirtans. Tukaram was a social reformer, religion reformer, great poet, saint, philosopher, thinker, rationalist, environmentalist, progressive and hero of the most backward classes. In the begining of the twenty first century, it is necessary to look at Saint Tukaram ‘s personality through scientific perspective. |
