IntroductionIn 2010, I was diagnosed at age 27 with invasive breast cancer and survived chemo and a mastectomy. Since then, I've become an active member of the Washington, DC cancer community. I now work at Smith Center for Healing and the Arts, a nonprofit health, education, and arts organization whose mission is to develop and promote healing practices that explore physical, emotional, and mental resources that lead to life-affirming changes for people affected by cancer. I am trained in Integrative Patient Navigation and am also a Virginia/DC State Leader for the Young Survival Coalition (YSC), an organization that provides support and education to young women impacted by breast cancer. I serve as a resource to women in my community diagnosed with breast cancer at all stages of treatment and diagnosis. I also run the Washington, DC metro area monthly Face-to-Face Support group for YSC. Additionally, I graduated from the National Breast Cancer Coalition’s Project LEAD in July 2013 and from this have served as a Consumer Grant Reviewer for the Department of Defense Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program.
InterestsDancing with my husband, Vegetarian/Vegan cooking, spending time with friends and family, reading, binge watching TV on Netflix or Hulu, starting (and sometimes finishing) new craft projects (I've mastered the art of being adequate in crochet, embroidery, painting, arm knitting, doodling and many other Pinterest trends), travel, and just about any other fun thing you offer me.
