| Introduction | I'm the author of four books on addiction, including Willpower's Not Enough and When Money is the Drug (both published by HarperCollins). For 30 years I've worked in the front-lines of addiction treatment, from therapeutic communities and out-patient clinics to hospital- and school-based programs. I've appeared on national TV and given workshops on addiction treatment for national audiences as well as in Russia, Colombia and Canada. I'm also a Reelizations producer, helping conceive, write and produce dozens of videos, counselor guides, cient worksheets and group curricula for addiction treatment. I led a research project on relapse prevention for The National Institute on Drug Abuse that led to our 5-part best-selling series, Beat the Street: Clean and Sober in the City. Oh, and I've written for The New York Times as well as for public television, including Bill moyers' series Close To Home. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New York. |

When you open your eyes underwater, do you ever worry that you'll drown?
No, that hasn't occurred to me.
