| Introduction | I’m Desirea Sagar and I work for a small-ship based expedition company in New York. It has recently come to my attention that I have spent all of 2011 doing nothing. I handled logistics for these Amazing voyages but every night I came home to sit on the couch, watch TV and eat. I gained 20 lbs and robbed myself of one year of precious life. Growing up, I didn’t have TV. I spent my time in the woods looking for hidden treasure, and building forts out of fallen branches. On a recent trip to Alaska with my company, I realized that for one brief week, I was that little girl again looking for hidden treasure, only this time I found it. The abundance of wildlife and the immensity of our surroundings was the gold I had always been searching for and I knew that I could not go back to New York with the same state of mind. I can no longer allow myself to spend my weekends on the couch. I can’t continue to suppress that person I was before the world got in the way. While I don’t have the means to spend my life traveling, I can certainly find time once a week to connect with nature. Some of the most beautiful and Inspirational sights are right under our noses. |
