| Introduction | Hi Everyone! I am the latest blogger on Science is Soooo Sexy! During my studies, I have focused on the immune system, human genetics, and microbiology, learning about how the body responds to infectious diseases. For my PhD, I worked on a project to investigate the biology of a human pathogenic fungus Aspergillus fumigatus. This fungus causes disease in individuals who are already sick in some way - for example, those on long term chemotherapy. This work led to the identification of several potential drug targets in this fungus. The key to this is finding genes or pathways in the fungus that don't exist in humans (or are not very similar) that are important to it's growth and survival and to trying and inactivate them. My interest in disease has led to me to my current position, where I am investigating novel ways of increasing the effectiveness of anti-cancer drugs. I love to share information and communicating with others and I am hoping to have some very exciting discussions and posts on this blog, and hopefully I won't need to convince you that... Science is Soooo Sexy!!!! |
