| Introduction | I'm a proud mommy to a beautiful girl who just recently turned one. Since her arrival I have become very interested in reviewing labor practices in the US, become a birth doula, and a lactation consultant. I have been blessed to be able to live and work in the UK as a registered nurse in the Neonatal Intentive Care, and had a profound water bith experience. I have since learned a lot about maternity and I hope to bring a new perspective to our over-medicalized system here in the US. I have found that even through formal education as a registered nurse I was vastly undereducated in the ways most of the world has babies and has been doing so for centuries. We need a change and it all starts with us...women and families supporting women! I have also learned 95% of what I now know about breastfeeding after I had my daughter and was self taught; despite working with mothers and babies as a profession. Through this blog I hope to try to dispell some misnomers, teach some interesting facts, answers questions, and discuss all things involving motherhood. This is our chance, as mothers and mommy's to be, to take a stand for our children. To know our options and to have a voice. |
