About me

IntroductionI was initially diagnosed with breast cancer (stage 0, Ductal Carcinoma In Situ -DCIS) in June 2002. After getting a second opinion at U of M which agreed with my doctors here, I had a single mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. I did not need chemo, but was put on Tamoxifan for five years. I had just celebrated my 7 year anniversary of being cancer free, when I got the dreaded call again from the mammography center in October 2009, saying that my mammogram was supsicious. After having a second mammogram, ultrasound and biopsies, it was confirmed that I have stage 1, HER-2 positive breast cancer this time. I had a second mastectomy with immediate reconstruction in November, and on January 12 I started my chemotherapy. I had a port put in when I had my surgery, so getting my infusions is easy and doesn't hurt at all! They just "pop" the needle into my port, like a pop bead, and away we go! The only "pain" about it, is that my "dance card" is filled every 3rd tuesday for the rest of the year. But it'll only be my "easy" chemo starting in May (the "big nasty" ends in April) and my hair will grow back, so I can deal with this schedule. The end result is what counts!
