| Introduction | When I see the misery of man, lost in this corner of the universe, without knowing who has put him here, what he has come to do, and what will become of him at death, I wonder how people in this condition do not fall into despair. I see other persons around me of like nature. I ask them if they are better informed than I am. They tell me they are not. And thereupon these miserable and lost beings, having looked around them and seen some pleasing objects, have given and attached themselves to them. For my own part, I have not been able to attach myself to them, and, considering how strongly it appears that there is something else than what I see, I have examined whether this God has not left some sign of Himself. |
| Interests | St. Jerome said, "To be ignorant of scripture is not to know Christ." Over the past 35 years, I've become a Bible history aficionado. If you integrate the Old Testament prophets with ancient history, they are much easier to understand. (The introduction is a condensed and edited version of a passage written by Blaise Pascal in the 17th century.) |
