| Introduction | I am a 40 year old sober married working mom. My favorite things in this world are my God, my family and friends, inspiring moments, belly laughs, conversation, camping, crafting, diving, and dancing. I'm in recovery from a myriad of dependencies, and primarily relate as a recovering alcoholic, bulimic and major depressive. Today I live free from a hell I believed I could only escape through suicide. You may have heard it said that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. This statement was rather insulting to me when in the throes of depression. When depressed my problem was not temporary, it was certainly not just one problem, and no one on earth could predict the time or date it would pass. Suicide really did seem the only plausible relief, no matter its permanence. Today this is not true, and I see that change is indeed my salvation. It’s hard to explain how I came to believe this or exactly when my recovery became bigger than my disease, but I hope my experiences then and now might lend support to others. Today, in the worst of times, I hang on to an unfailing faith that every feeling will pass and that I am okay exactly where my feet are. No matter what. |
