Introduction While traveling to Puerto Vallarta on an artist retreat I had a few insights about my personal life. I became aware of the complexity of my relationships with family, friends and peers and how they can be entangled webs, whether easy or burdensome. Once I left the retreat my basic line compositions started to form into intricate webs with intersections reminiscent of stars. These paintings appear like elegant lace work and I think they represent the intense energy that occupies the space in our minds. In conjunction to my paintings, I started drawing birds again and found them to be frail, little, precious beings - working their way back into my life. In Mexico I loved the tunes of birds tucked away on the hillside. Even now, I leave my windows open in my home to bring the sounds of those beautiful creatures indoors. These pen drawings have the same intensity the abstracts have. They are tightly woven and display a sort of grace and I think these two techniques compliment one another nicely.
