| Introduction | When I was little, I had a lot of names. One of the sweetest things I was called was Anna Pieka Valentine. I asked my father once what Pieka (pronounced peeka) meant, and he told me that there was a tiny little country in Europe where "pieka" was the word they used for the star on top of a Christmas tree. I was old enough to know my Papa's funny ways, but young enough to believe everything he said... and I'm glad, because I still think it's one of the most magical things I've ever heard. So, hello! I'm Anna, a 35-year-old dabbler in the twistyness of life. I'm a postpartum doula, a certified lactation counselor, a parent educator, a writer, a photographer, a bubbling and somewhat hesitant artist, and an idea factory. And I'm glad that we're here. |
